Throw away your would-be signature, Sinatra copyists of the last 40 years and behold this contemporary take on what Sinatra was to the fifties…Wouter Hamel.
Now, for the first time, Hamel is taking his exhilarating live act on tour in the UK.His beautifully crafted songs and hugely talented band make the shows some of the most energetic, compelling and enjoyable around at the moment – definitely not to be missed.
Having captured the attention of Europe and Asia, the Amsterdam-based pop/jazz artist and his impressive band, is about to embark on a first UK tour, coinciding with the release of his first international album - 'Nobody's Tune'. The blond “jazz god” has recently been signed by Decca(Universal) in London.
The obvious Great American Songbook material is not to be found within Hamel’s repertoire. None of the original great swing and jump singers wrote their own material and equally none of their contemporaries; Harry Connick Jnr, Michael Bublé and Jamie Cullum.
Wouter Hamel writes all the music and all the lyrics for all his own songs. This is absolutely unique in this contemporary take on a classic genre. He is as much a singer songwriter as any in folk, pop, rock or country.
Through the influence of his mother Hamel fell for the legacy of vocalists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Tormé and Peggy Lee. Whilst studying music, their mastery became his standard and in 2007 Hamel received no less than five prestigious awards for his first album, “Hamel”, which also achieved gold and platinum in his native Holland.
Hamel sounds even better live; intense, deep and extremely energetic. His voice is silky and his audience rapport is irresistibly warm, charming and playful.

While most kids these days are concerning themselves with High School Musical or games consoles at the age of 12, Leddra Chapman picked up one of her dads acoustic guitars, sat down and proceeded to write her first song. Since that day the young singer songwriter has never looked back…....realising she had a serious knack of capturing thought provoking emotion in her lyrics and melodies, Anna continued to write songs when inspiration took hold until she had enough quality songs together to get herself into local venues to play them to a live audience at the age of just 14.
With a quintessentially English voice which is both pure and unique, it wasn’t long before she was being invited to play venues all over the country as well as prestigious industry events. After a frustrating period of being too young for most of these invites, she finally hit the ripe old age of 15 and began playing bigger local shows and the odd London acoustic venue when her parents were available to accompany her. Never lacking ambition, Leddra Chapman divided her time between finishing school, writing songs, teaching herself piano and also learned to produce demo’s of her songs in the small home-studio her dad had built in a room attached to their garage. Those early home demos became the recordings that created the initial buzz within the music industry and as soon people started to hear about the Essex schoolgirl with a voice that makes you melt she was invited to play Britain’s premier new music showcase – Manchester’s ‘In The City’ Music Conference. Leddra Chapman played a quite beautiful 30 minute set to a packed crowd at the Warchild Acoustic Showcase and was subsequently chosen as a ‘Best of ITC’ in Music Week magazine who described her as ‘filling a similar space to early Alanis Morissette and Joni Mitchell’.
Having just completed her debut album which is being funded by the Icebreaker Investment fund and being released via her own label ALC Music, Leddra Chapman is also working on her degree at London College of Music. The debut album, entitled ‘Telling Tales’ was written by Leddra Chapman and produced by Peter Vettese who also co-wrote 4 of the songs on the record. Anna is also currently one of the dozen or so worldwide brand ambassadors for Quiksilver Clothing’s women’s range which launched last year. The deal with Quiksilver promotes Anna’s music and profile via all their platforms including in-store, online and at live surfing and launch events where Anna has played numerous shows to 1000’s of people. With 100’s of shows over the last 18 months around the UK and ventures into Europe (thanks to Quiksilver), the co-pro has changed Anna’s life considerably having been involved modelling assignments and promoting the range as well as performing at the launch events at QS Stores across Europe. Staying at the Quiksilver house in the South of France during the Quiksilver Pro France surf championships was one of the highlights of Anna’s hectic summer. ‘Hanging out with pro surfers, playing poker and singing to some very cool people at night and then learning to surf and chilling on the beach during the day……what more does a girl really need in her life’?
Leddra Chapman has also recently returned from her fifth trip to the Quiksilver house in Hossegor where she performed a big show on a specially erected stage on the beach for the 1000’s of surfers in the town for the QS Pro France 09. With heartfelt, honest lyrics that come straight from the soul, Leddra-Chapman is truly one of the most gifted young songwriters and vocalists in Britain today. Now aged 19, Anna is readying herself for the release of her debut album ‘Telling Tales’ this winter, a string of her own UK shows and a European and UK Tour in November of Quiksilver stores to promote the release. The European leg of the tour will be in conjunction with couchsurfing.com and LC will utilise the site as her accommodation for the tour.
It should be a totally wonderful night of abslutely free music.
Don't Miss It!
