ELEPHANTS + STAGECOACH + UTE @ THE CELLAR OXFORD
Those wonderful Elephants and Stagecoach boys are back in Oxford to party, with the superb Ute as support. Whatta lineup!
ELEPHANTS | http://www.myspace.com/fullyelephants | Hailing from Kent, these guys are starting to make some real waves, starting earlier this year when they played the BBC Introducing stage at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Swindon. They've also done a Maida Vale session, and had their music used on the king of breakfast TV shows, Soccer AM.
They've got fans in Razorlight drummer Andy Burrows and Gavin and Stacey star Matthew Horne, who has their debut single 'Alexander' as the featured song on his Myspace.
The new recording has just been finished with more details being announced soon.
STAGECOACH | http://www.myspace.com/stagecoachuk | Oh how we love these 'coach boys. If you're a fan of US college rock like Weezer, prepare a space in your CD collection for these guys as they're the best thing the UK has to offer as an alternative.
Signed to Oxford's Alcopop! Records, they've played with the likes of The Wombats, Phoenix and Frightened Rabbit. Radio play has been strong so far from Radio 1, 6Music, XFM and NME radio. They've had tracks used on Skins and Gavin and Stacey on both Christmas and New Years days. And last but not least, they have a celebrity fan in Radio 2 presenter and X Factor host Dermot O'Leary.
If you haven't already heard their Tazers EP, you should probably sack off whatever you're doing right now, and go and buy it. You won't be sorry.
UTE | http://www.myspace.com/utetheband As if you haven't heard of Ute around these parts?!
Fresh from a mini-tour with Cats and cats and cats and recent announcement of joining the Idle Hands Club management roster (Both the above bands happen to also be on said roster!), Ute will be opening the night.
If you weren't already aware, Ute have been fast gaining a reputation for their incendiary, genre-bending live shows. Pushing the boundaries of folk, their music features entrancing clapping patterns, room-filling harmonies and pensive structures that leave the listener wondering what’s going to happen next.
2009 saw them play main stage at Truck and through the year support bands such as Maps&Atlases, The Xcerts, This Town Needs Guns, Talons & Pulled Apart by Horses. They also played the BSM Christmas Party in December at the O2 with the wonderful Kevin Devine and Shoes and socks off (Toby ex MMISL). With 2010 looking as exciting a year as the previous, I suggest you get down early to enjoy what will only be a super start to the night!
