We're delighted to announce that Faley and Potter from Late of the Pier ( http://www.lateofthepier.com ) will be visiting Pin Ups in January to Guest DJ as part of a wee DJ tour they're going to be doing to promote their smashing new single "Blueberry". "Blueberry" has been produced by Erol Alkan and will be released on Mr Alkan's own Phantasy label as a download on December 14, with a 12-inch vinyl featuring another new song called "Best In the Class" to follow at the start of February.
Erol Alkan also produced Late of the Pier's debut album "Fantasy Black Channel" in 2008. It's a simply phenomenal record and defies easy description. Reading through a bunch of reviews, I've seen their sound compared to allsorts - Queen, Aphex Twin, The Klaxons, Blur, MGMT, "Bowie's imagined future", Metronomy and "the death of a small star as they hammer through frantic electronica"!! Here at Pin Ups we think this review from http://www.thequietus.com puts it best:
"Fantasy Black Channel is a record that ought to be played to those traitorous moaning minnies who insist that we should all be rolling over for US indie's cultural imperialism and listening to anaemic dross like Fleet Foxes. Fantasy Black Channel doesn't merely tread the fine line between the sublime and the ridiculous, it dances definition into the dust and comes out the other side with busted calves, a bastard behind the eyes, and an uncaring grin smeared across its fresh unrazored face."
It's safe to say that these guys are gonna make us D-A-N-C-E!
In support is a quite magnificent line-up of home-grown talent. Nevada Base ( http://www.myspace.com/nevadabase ) are "super-elektrik-handsome-eklektik" and, in our opinion, Glasgow's best electropop/dance outfit at this moment. Vendor Defender ( http://www.myspace.com/vendordefender ) are cut from the same melodic cloth and aren't far behind Nevada Base in the dance-laden, foot-tapping stakes. Completing the live bill are Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5 ( http://www.myspace.com/pantalonsound ). They're an 8-piece collective composed of some legendary bands and er, other collectives - The Ping Pong Banana Show, 60 Persons, Samba Ya Bamba, Brendan Campbell, The Pantalons and The Snozzwanger. They promise to rise to the dance challenge with their rousing set-closer "the International Sex Hero".
The Pin Ups DJs will of course be on hand throughout the evening for dancefloor destruction and we're also very pleased to welcome 2 very talented Guest DJs who have been fighting the good fight on the Glasgow music scene - Paul McQueen of MUCK ( http://www.myspace.com/whitenoisefeedbackdistortion ) and Colin Brownbill of SYNTH ( http://www.myspace.com/thesynthclub ).
There it is. If you don't dance at this night you haven't got a pulse!
Entry is £6 on the night but £5 in advance from the store at http://www.pinup-nights.co.uk right now - what are you waiting for?
