Pin Ups is 6! Time flies when you’re having fun and it seems like only yesterday we were getting all excited for our first ever Pin Ups in Blackfriars back in 2003. Now we’re the longest running indie night in Glasgow and since 2003 we’ve welcomed the best new bands in Scotland through our doors and created disco mayhem on a scale never before seen on planet Earth.
In celebration of being 6 years young, we’re going to dazzle your senses with an all-new set of “Future Pin Ups Classics” in the Main Room disco. The challenge we’ve set ourselves is to avoid playing anything we have ever played before while keeping you lovely people dancing the night away!
Over the years we’ve had more than a few dancefloor favourites and we’re proud that we’ve heard some of our biggest Pin Ups winners being used by other clubs in Glasgow months after we’d worn them out and thrown the records away. We’ve heard tales that the APeeC DJs used to forage in the bins outside the Woody for our scraps – but far be it from us to endorse such scandalous rumour.
Speaking of these Pin Ups tunes which have become recognised indie disco standards, for one night only as a nice birthday retrospective we are also going to be playing the 101 songs which have made people dance the most at Pin Ups since the night started back in 2003. We are renaming the Kitchen “Room 101” for the night and will play 101 of the “Pin Up Dancefloor Destroyers 2003 – 2009”!
These Dancefloor Destroyers have been identified through highly scientific means that neither you nor I could possibly understand and some of them haven’t been played for years. This is strictly a once in a lifetime opportunity, and the literary types amongst you may note that the “Room 101” reference hints that once these songs go into Room 101 – they might never come out again…
As always we also have top class live bands and Playing live on the night will be
Dirty Cuts ( http://www.myspace.com/thedirtycuts ),
We’re Only Afraid of NYC (http://www.myspace.com/wereonlyafraidofnyc ),
Mitchell Museum ( http://www.myspace.com/mitchellmuseum ) and
Always Me, Me Me ( http://www.myspace.com/alwaysmememeglasgow),
and there will also be a special birthday edition fanzine and badge for the first 100 to arrive, birthday cake and free toast!!!!
All this birthday action adds up to a vague time travel theme which we nod to on our flyer!
Next up for Pin Ups is HLDB on Saturday 12th December, then the Pin Ups Hogmanay Ball 2 – details to follow soon although its on Thursday 31st and will feature a VERY IMPRESSIVE LINE UP. More details coming your way very soon…
