Think in Oceans
Sunday 22 November 2009
Studio Theatre, Roundhouse
The Roundhouse presents Think In Oceans; an evening of silent film with live music accompaniment, featuring two innovative live acts performing to films that have inspired them.
The Three-Sided Mirror (La Glace A Trois Faces) (1927), dir. Jean Epstein.
Accompanied by Starless & Bible Black
This experimental film exposes several different stories through a complex narrative that follows the relations of three women with a young, affluent man. A classic work of the Parisian avant-garde, The Three-Sided Mirror is artisitically original and captivating, a typically innovative film from one of the major figures in French silent cinema.
Folk outfit, Starless & Bible Black, will be exploring the darker side of their spacious and often poignant sound in what is set to be an unmissable performance.

The Ossuary (Kostnice) (1970) and A Quiet Week In The House (Tichý týden v dome) (1969), dir. Jan Svankmajer.
Accompanied by The Big Eyes Family Players
Czech surrealist Jan Svankmajer is regarded as the alchemist of film, with his inimitable stop-motion techniques and extraordinary animations, exploring the furthest reaches of imagination. These films are wonderful examples of Svankmajer's defiant and subversive approach to filmmaking, using live-action and animation to express complex issues with great simplicity. The Big Eyes Family Players will present a new interpretation of Svankmajer's works, drawing on their experimental classical/folk sound for a truly unique performance.
