Rough Trade Shops’ RoTa afternoon presents:
FIVE BY FIVE - Five Saturdays, Five independent record labels, Sept 26th - Oct 24th
FREE ENTRY! 4pm-8pm, Notting Hill Arts Club, Notting Hill Gate, Bands + DJs, Happy Hour bar prices, comfy sofas, lovely records and t-shirts on sale
For five weeks, Rough Trade Shops’ RoTa proudly welcomes you to five FREE afternoon showcases by five marvellous independent record labels, each flying proudly in the face of big-suit, big-money corporate goat-herding and carving out a unique and personal path for themselves in these trying times. From the inspirational Old Guard of Too Pure Records - without whom the landscape of British music from the early 90s onwards would arguably look flat and colourless - through champions of bedroom recording and celebrators of the glorious cassette TapeClub Records; to OddBox’s love affair with glorious shimmering indie-pop; to the truly wonderful Stagecoach’s album release party on the relentlessly enthusiastic Alcopop! label; to Evil Pop’s off-kilter no-pigeonhole joyful noise. Each of these afternoons represents the work of people in love with music and who’ll believe in it until their dying breath. So join us each Saturday after you’ve been to the shops and before you go out to celebrate the joy of true independent record labels who refuse to be labelled! We just might inspire you to start your own...

Get your chunky old walkman out for the marvellous TapeClub label, committed to the glory of the gone but not forgotten cassette- without question the format which the joyful jaunt of heartfelt bedroom indie pop and acoustica was made for. Don’t worry, iPod generation, you can get all the releases on yucky MP3s and vulgar CDs, but don’t miss the ultra-limited edition, lovingly crafted tapes that will no doubt be on sale at RoTa today!
