Hi and welcome to your friendly GIITTV zine update.
Vote for your favourite Beatles album!
We are encouraging you to vote and debate your selections for the Beatles' best long player. Will you choose one of their earlier efforts Please Please Me or with the Beatles, or maybe the era defining Sgt Peppers? The start of their psychedelic experimentalism on Rubber Soul? Or the masterpiece Revolver? Or their double album opus The White album? Their final statement Abbey Road? The choice is yours!

FEATURE: END OF THE ROAD FESTIVAL:
After last year's superb weather (a bit rainy on the Saturday but it made lovely rainbows), excellent line-up (The Mountain Goats, Jeffrey Lewis, Mercury Rev) and all the wonderful people I met whilst stewarding, this year's End of the Road festival (the fourth) had a lot to live up to.

LIVE: The Joy Formidable
We could be in reception class at school, the way singer Ritzy encourages us to all form a circle: ‘Come on, everyone gather round. Sit down if you want. Get in a circle’ As if on the spot, The Joy Formidable have decided to abandon the backroom pedestal of the stage inside Pure Groove record store in favour of the friendlier situation of sitting in the middle of the shop floor closely surrounded by fans.

Fuck Buttons - Surf Solar
It isn’t overly long since Andrew Hung and Benjamin John Power, the duo that make up the affrontingly-named Fuck Buttons, unleashed their difficult first album: six tracks of rumbling, brash noise, only just kept in check by pounding synth loops, scattered yelping lyrics and peculiar interlocking beats. Baffling yet mesmerising, it was a critical favourite for 2008, and mapped an experimental noisenik template that the Buttons seemed only too keen to exaggerate further.

The Donde Stars - America
Welsh act Donde Stars, tread the same well worn path as Radiohead, Coldplay, Feeder, Muse and too many other acts to mention. Do the Donde Stars have enough to set them apart from all the also rans? On this evidence... maybe.

The Hush Now - Hoping and Waiting
Opening with a brief flutter of church organ ‘Hoping and Waiting’ is a powder puff indie pop anthem, blighted with familiar post-punk Wire like rhythms, the knowingly vague and pedestrian pale soma doused vocals, before closing in unnecessary triumph with trumpet fanfare and the half arsed spew of a non-descript opera singer; it is hard to point a critical finger at the single, the song certainly isn’t memorable, no melodies linger, no chorus sticks to the back of your subconscious wall like pink bubble gum. The music is caught between a field of bristling, youthful energy and a barren plain of dreariness.
