For the launch we wanted the party to ignite from the start so when we decided on the party concept there was never a 2nd choice it had to be Trevor Jackson.
Trevor comes from a school of DJing that doesn't have much use for nights that bill themselves as "[insert genre name here] all night long!" He's been too busy blurring the lines throughout his extensive career, via remixes and original productions as Underdog and Playgroup, to care about that. Trevor will be playing a 4 hour set and a magical rollercoaster ride into the music which really makes him tick. If you checked out Trevor’s fantastic Dj kicks Playgroup mix comp on K7 a little while back you know just what to expect from old Chicago and early house flavours ( Ralphi Rosario,Culture Vibe) through to rediscovered dark pop gems (Human League, Flying Lizards) all thrown in the mix.
Trevor Jackson
London based Trevor Jackson started his career designing record covers in the late eighties for the likes of Todd Terry, The Jungle Brothers and the Stereo MCs. Under the Underdog name he's remixed Massive Attack, UNKLE, Run DMC and U2. Jackson has formed numerous labels including Bite It (The Brotherhood, Lewis Parker etc) and Output Recordings. Output has released artists such as Four Tet, Black Strobe, Colder and distributed American acts the Rapture and the LCD Soundsystem in Europe. Output folded in 2006.
Jackson also released a DJ Kicks album on K7! in 2002 and his own productions under the moniker Playgroup. Trevor Jackson has been working at the vanguard of audio and visual culture for over 20 years. The London based Art Director, Designer, Moving-Image maker and Producer’s work has been exhibited at the ICA, BALTIC, GUHGGENHEIM and BARBICAN, as well as on countless seminal record covers. With its emphasis on visual as much as musical artistry and innovation, Jackson’s iconic OUTPUT RECORDINGS label set a new aesthetic standard that prompted critics to declare it this decade’s equivalent to Factory.Jackson’s career began in 1987 when he formed design company BITE IT!. Selected for that year’s Creative Futures exhibition, his early work also featured in Cynthia Rose’s influential DESIGN AFTER DARK: The Story of Dancefloor Style. Jackson subsequently ventured into record production and remixing: working as THE UNDERDOG, his dark blend of hip-hop, psychedelia, avant-garde electronics and dub won him many admirers, and remix work for MASSIVE ATTACK, U2 and UNKLE followed. In 1996 he retired The Underdog alias and formed a new label, OUTPUT RECORDINGS. Jackson’s art direction gave Output its unique and immediate visual identity, one intimately and inextricably linked to the groundbreaking records it released and distributed – music by FOUR TET, LCD SOUNDSYSTEM, THE RAPTURE, and Jackson’s own PLAYGROUP project, among others. After 10 years and 100 releases, Jackson closed Output; 2007’s I HATE MUSIC CD/DVD compiles some of the label’s most notable offerings
Jackson remains an in-demand Producer, Remixer and DJ, and has recently worked with the likes of the GOSSIP, DOVES, DJ HELL and FRANZ FERDINAND. His mix for the renowned compilation series DJ KICKS (K7! 2003), is much like his own approach to creating music: an uncompromising blend of diverse sounds that traverse the sonic spectrum. With a forward-thinking approach driven by an enduring commitment to promote innovation and new talent, as well as extensive knowledge and respect for music history and its cultural roots, Jackson's ability to communicate with the dancefloor, whether it be in larger mainstream clubs like FABRIC (London) or smaller underground parties and select events across the globe, keep him one of London's most notable dj's.
