Fri Sept 4th - Spearmint DJ at HDIF in Brixton
Our guest DJs at HDIF in Brixton this Friday are Spearmint. They'll be warming up for their show at the ICA at the end of the month with a tag team DJ set, with all of the band (including famed DJ in his own right, Andy Lewis), taking turns at playing their favourite songs for your dancing pleasure. Should be fun!
Indie song of the week: "Higher Than The Stars" by The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. 2009's indiepop high flyers wave farewell to the fuzz guitars with this sublime bid for the mainstream.
Soul song of the week: "Eleanor Rigby" by Aretha Franklin. Super funky, upbeat first person version of the Fabs tune. Aretha opens with the words: "I'm Eleanor Rigby..." Classy.
Also, I'll be playing ten songs written or co-written by Ellie Greenwich, in tribute to the songwriting legend who sadly passed away last Wednesday. Which considering she was responsible for Be My Baby, Da Doo Ron Ron, Leader Of The Pack, River Deep Mountain High, I Can Hear Music, He's Got The Power and loads more, should be no trouble at all!
Any requests? What would you like to hear?
Hope to see you on Friday!
