First things first, the Circus has been postponed until next month! The Pin Ups Circus is panning out to be the most exciting Pin Ups event we've ever staged and we desperately wanted to do it this month. The problem was that we had a protracted search for a "Ringmaster", or generally a glam "Guest DJ". Never fret however you handsome lot. The Circus will now go ahead next month (25th September)! There will be actual freaks! performers! stalls! jugglers! strong men! sideshows, the works! There are even rumours of a live gorilla and a coconut shy! It's going to be spectacular! Paul Puppet of the Rio Café’s Spangled Cabaret shall be our Ringmaster, and we are also delighted to announce our Guest DJ will be Mike Fielding, aka NABOO from the MIGHTY BOOSH!
Anyhow, onto matters closer to hand and this Friday!! Despite our last minute hitches we're delighted to say Pin Ups will be going ahead as always. Out of decency we've offered the bands which were on the August bill the opportunity to play the September Circus instead and they've all said yes. We have offers out to a few bands to fill the gap as we speak but aren't able to put any on the bill as yet. If you are interested, email pinup_nights@yahoo.co.uk
Obviously times a shortening to get bands sorted so it might be we go with plan B which is to host the early part of the evening from 9 in the Kitchen and start the Pin Ups disco at 11 in the Main Room. By now you'll all know the score with the Pin Ups disco, expect a fun packed evening dancing to a heady concoction of indie, punk, soul, electropop, hilarity and mayhem! We're well established now as the last Friday of the month at the Duck with a good dancing crowd so hopefully you lovely lot will come along, dance your legs down to the knees and make it a night to remember!
After the Circus we've got a Halloween 6th Birthday Special on Friday 30th October so there's loads of exciting Pin Ups action on the way in the next few months. Added to that, Pin Ups' very own James "Butcher" Cassidy's new HLDB night at the Captains Rest over the next two months has the fantastic Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs from London (only the 2nd band to be signed to Joe Hot Chip's record label Greco Roman), All The Queens Bovine, Vendor Defender and Dead Boy Robotics lined up on Sat 12th Sep, and Micachu and the Shapes PLUS Mercury Music Prize nominees The Invisible on Friday 9th Oct! Not bad eh? Tickets for both these HLDB gigs - plus the Pin Ups Circus (at an early-bird price of just £5) - can be snapped up NOW at the store at http://www.pinup-nights.co.uk .
So there you go, a whole host of action coming your way, kicking off with a good old fashioned Pin Ups Disco this Friday....see you there!!!
