Popklubb presents Cats on Fire + Frankie & the Heartstrings - Friday 24 July- Newcastle y
From Finland, Cats on Fire are playing this warm up gig as a prelude to their appearance at the Indietracks Festival the following evening, and we reckon, headliners aside, they are the band to see there. With influences from Felt to the Smiths, they are now signed under the mighty fine How Does it Feel To Be Loved label here in the UK, and the equally superb Matinee label in the US, and their latest album has been receiving rave reviews. Anyone who is a fan of Swedish indiepop should find much to love here:
Of new album, Our temperance Movement:
"Cats on Fire hit a high mark few other earnest young men can reach" (Q magazine)
Of Province Complains:
"an indiepop halleluljah" (NME)

Support comes from local boys Frankie and the Hearstrings, whose sense of style and "simply brilliant indiepop with a hint of 50s twee" (NARC) should compliment COF perfectly...
Their latest fan is Andy Weatherall no less, who described them as the "best unsigned band around" during his latest 6Mix.
"Oh my brothers, that's fantastic" (Andy Weatherall, BBC 6 Live) referring to the mighty splendid track 'Fragile.'
