Following the success of James "Butcher" Cassidy's HEAVYLIGHT DARKBRIGHT in March (200-odd at Stereo) and April (a sold-out Captains Rest), HLDB will begin a monthly residency in The Captain's Rest from the 2nd Saturday of July onwards - that's Saturday 11th July. The plan is bands downstairs, HLDB and Pin Ups DJs upstairs. We see HLDB as being the perfect way to start your Saturday night, or even as a superb night out in its own right! Playing live are Supersonic Sims, Tokyo Knife Attack and All the Queens Bovine.
If you'd like more details, then in James' own words:
Supersonic Sims is a perfect example of what HLDB is about. As soon as you go on to his myspace and hear "blackout" pounding it grabs you because its something a little different from where you have just been. Even the crap speakers on your laptop cant hide the quality of this track. Its the kind of sound you expect to hear on ED Banger...Im delighted that he is making the journey through from Edinburgh to give us his blend of electro/hiphop/pop/funk. Will he bring his dancers? It will be "eye and ear catching" and i honestly cant wait. http://www.myspace.com/supersonicsims
Tokyo Knife Attack calls his eclectic music Electro/pop/surf on his myspace, so lets roll with that. Armed with various gadgets this one man machine will have you wondering what he is up to on stage and shaking your backside as he puts together his seamless set. http://www.myspace.com/tokyoknifemusak
All The Queens Bovine were a lucky find, when i started to listen to his tracks i instantly wanted more so i got in contact and asked him to play live. I asked the question "so, whats your setup?" and the reply which gives you an idea of what ATQB is all about and what makes it all so interesting- "BOVINE is the production label name cus i produce/remix a lot of other artists and theres like photography and video parts to it and A.T.Q.B is my music which has a varied amount of styles, its a one man thing, ive got two styles of sets which are laptop, banjo, keyboard and maraca which is like folk/electro and the laptop, synth sets are more distorted electro" You get the picture? A.T.Q.B is a busy boy with lots going on and some quality music to show for it. I cant wait to hear it live. http://www.myspace.com/allthequeensbovine
We will be DJing at T in the Park on Friday but coming back down for this as we are tough guys…
Lastly, pictures of the action-packed Pin Ups Festival from Friday 26th June (Inflatables! Wellies! Straw! The Wham Tent! ) are now in the gallery at http://www.pinup-nights.co.uk
