RECLUSE In association with FBox Records, Recluse specialises in improvisational and exploratory music. The night which runs monthly started after hearing a range of extremely adventurous music being exchanged online but unheard in a live context. This afternoon's concert showcases three such acts varying from electronica-tinged Iranian folk to shoegaze influenced drones.
On Alex Monk:
Alex Monk is a musician and producer based in London and is fond of experimentation and improvisation, combining acoustic and digitally processed elements. Subjecting the guitar and found sounds to a variety of analogue and digital processes, Monk’s live improvised performances exhibit past, present and future sonic events. A creation of timeless artefacts akin to the apex of Post-Punk inventiveness, as well as today’s ecclesiastical drone rock. His new simultaneous debut 'double release' on the Belgian Smeraldina-Rima label has received great reviews and Monk is a regular on the London live circuit.

On Roshi feat.Pars Radio:
Born in Wales to Iranian parents, Roshi Nasehi is a singer -writer who presents her own evocative songs alongside sometimes quite radical interpretations of some of the Iranian songs she was brought up listening to. Her songs reflect her origins, influences and experiences in a personal and unique way accompanied by unusual piano or keyboard arrangements - they are reflective, melodic and quirky - her voice airy and tender but possessed of an inner power. Pars Radio is the band created around these beautiful individual interpretations of Iranian Folk and original songs and features the electronic soundscapes/beats of Graham Dids (Gagarin, Nico, Pere Ubu etc etc) together with classical Cello from Rachel Threlfall and experimental Cello from Richard Thomas (Now, The Hola). It's an unusual sound world combining Roshi's intimate singing style , Dids-Gagarin's experimental electronic powers and haunting string layers to create a unique genre-crossing, exotic, folktronica landscape.

On Isnaj Dui:
Standing somewhere between modern classical and electronica, Isnaj Dui (real name Katie English) conveys a minimal yet capturing sound using electronically manipulated flutes and homemade instruments. With three solo releases on her own FBox Records as well as Amacrine on Smallfish in 2007, English has gained a solid reputation as both a live performer and recording artist. Through studies in electroacoustic music, alternative tunings and Javanese Gamelan as well as her classical work, Katie has fused together many styles to create a unique sound, infusing tranquil melodies with a dark edge. Keith Moline of Wire writes of 2007s Patterns In Rocks '...English manages to take the [flute] into darker realms while maintaining a lovely, sleepy languor.'
