The Offbeat: SJ Esau (Anticon), Asthmatic Astronaut and Lifeshows (Underling) & Point to C (Mixed Bizness)
SJ Esau, one of Anticon's few British signings, will be a performing a unique live set of his own carefully constructed brand of aural chaos at the Twisted Wheel in Glasgow on Thursday 11th June. This fella' has carved out the most unique of existences for himself… at the tender age of 12 he retired from a 4 year rap career which included a spell on Smith and Mighty's prestigious Three Stripe Records, and since then has been carving out a living creating frantic, introspective songs submerged in complex loops of fierce wrong-hop wobbles and post-rock bleeps. Sam Wisternoff now has three and a half SJ Esau LPs under his belt, working with leftfield luminaries such as Why? & Sole along the way. His unmissable live performance will be firmly rooted in heavy hip-hop tempos, with an engaging folk-tinged electronic fizz which is sure to kick up quite stir on the floor.
Joining our main man, we're honoured to present a very special show from Asthmatic Astronaught & Lifeshows. Currently forging their way as a duo risen from recently disbanded Underling, the pair have recently rubbed shoulders on stage with the likes of GZA, DJ Vadim & Skinnyman as well as appearing on Vic Galloways's BBC Radio show. Their furious blend of versatile hip-hop beats fused with inspiring hard-hitting lyrics will make for a remarkable & ferocious live performance.
DJ support duties are reinforced by Point To C, who'll be warming up the soundsystem with throbbing soul-fuelled rhythms and bass heavy dub dynamics.
