NICO MUHLY (Grizzly Bear, Bjork, Antony and the Johnsons, etc) at The Union Chapel 8th May
Composer Nico Muhly has an impressive resume; he has worked with Philip Glass, Rufus Wainwright, Will Oldham, Antony (of Antony and the Johnsons), Björk, The National, and most recently with Grizzly Bear on their album Veckatimest.
His albums Speaks Volumes and Mothertongue, and his live shows, have received high acclaim in the international press. The cast of characters who appear on Mothertongue include his closest collaborators - violist Nadia Sirota, folk singer Sam Amidon and, last but not least, Icelandic producer Valgeir Sigurdsson.
Muhly’s works have been premiered by the Chicago Symphony and the Juilliard Orchestra, among others, and he has written film scores for Choking Man (2006), Joshua (2007), Margaret (2009) and the Acadamy Award nominated film, The Reader (2008).
From Antony Hegarty of Antony & the Johnsons:
"He paints the sky with his work. The melody and notes are almost invisible, and he thinks in terms of these panoramas of shifting energy, which at their best are so beautiful."
Nico Mulhy appears at London’s Union Chapel on Friday 8 May presented by the Arctic Circle. This show should appeal to fans of Max Richter, Hauschka, Johann Johannsson, Peter Broderick…
