HLDB'S "HOT IN THE CITY" - CAPTAIN'S REST GLASGOW THIS FRIDAY
HEAVYLIGHT DARKBRIGHT///PINUP NIGHTS presents:
"HOT IN THE CITY"
THE CAPTAIN'S REST, GREAT WESTERN ROAD
FRIDAY 17TH APRIL, 8PM, £5
LIVE: NEVADA BASE, RBRBR, ALKOTRON
We originally also had the nearby Woodside Social Club booked on the same date to try to pull off some sort of 2-venue Great Western Gig Extravaganza, but following discussions amongst the Pin Ups chaps we decided this would be overambitious, exceedingly stressful, prone to 101 complications and overall a Very Bad Idea. (Plus we don't know if "naughty boy" John D. is still banned from the Woody having been caught with a carry out on the last night of Pin Ups there in August 2007.)
So we have stuck to the Captain’s Rest and put together a top class bill. Is there a better way to start your Friday night? Here it is in all its glory...

Personally i think this band have the best "thing" going on in Glasgow right now, there...i said it.
We had them playing at the first HLDB night we done in March at Stereo and we knew as soon as we had another night going we wanted them involved...I don’t have an official list of their influences but if you think Rapture/LCD Soundsystem/Who Made Who/DFA it gives you an idea why these boys are worth seeing. But dont just take my word for it -

-RBRBR (www.myspace.com/rbrbr)
Popping through from Edinburgh to show us their stuff are RBRBR. Before you read on do this - Go to their myspace,Turn up your Volume and listen to "Maff" ..Recently this mob have supported Metronomy, recorded a session for Radio 1 and are working on an E.P due for release in the summer..I havent seen them live before so im really looking forward to it.
(Think:KITSUNE// Hot Chip//Gomma//ED BANGER///Munk) Read more at http://lotsofrandomwords.wordpress.com/2009/03/18/interview-rbrbr/
-ALKOTRON (www.myspace.com/alkotron)
When you go onto their myspace it reads: "Our main aim is to play the tunes the more discernable among us would view as food for the ears. After years of trying to conform to a sound which was viewed as either cool or contemporary , we decided enough is enough of this shit....and formed ALKOTRON. We decided from the off that only our opinion counts about what we play"
So...some straight talking Garage/Rock that aint trying to please anyone but themselves ...I fancy a bit of that! Learn more and read about their recent show at Mutant Music here:

Another "good one" then is on the cards...
Get yourself down early so you dont miss any of the bands and also to make sure you get in as the Captains Rest cant fit you all in!
Peace, Love and Understanding, HLDB x
