THE FLAMING LIPS, PLACEBO AND SUPER FURRY ANIMALS JOIN BASEMENT JAXX, DIZZEE RASCAL, THE PRODIGY, BIFFY CLYRO AND ORBITAL

THE FLAMING LIPS, the critically acclaimed, multi-Grammy-winning kings of psychedelia are today revealed as the hotly anticipated FRIDAY MAIN STAGE headline act for this summer’s ROCK NESS festival.

Delighted organisers have confirmed the seminal US act, known for their legendary weird and wonderful live shows, sweeping soundscapes and impassioned fan base will launch the Highland festival in June, the inaugural year of it extending to three days. THE FLAMING LIPS at ROCK NESS - an inspired addition to an already splendidly curated line up.

The musical and visual boundaries continue to be pushed with the announcement of the magnificent SUPER FURRY ANIMALS. Never ceasing to amaze and delight, the spacey pop genius of this Welsh ensemble promises to enhance the Rock Ness vibe to great effect. Indie rock idols PLACEBO have also been added to the eclectic lineup.

In an announcement sure to delight dance fans, the first wave of top electronic acts are revealed. First up, DAVID GUETTA. With a raft of anthems to his credit, countless gigs in the most glamorous of locations across the globe and of course his famed Pacha Ibizan residency, Guetta’s Rock Ness billing is big news for his legions of followers. Joining Guetta is electronic powerhouse EROL ALKAN. The much lauded DJ maestro enjoys an evangelical following and his appearance at Rock Ness is a major coup. Further boosting the first class dance offer will be BBC Radio 1’s forceful champions PETE TONG and ZANE LOWE, DJ YODA, and the painfully hip CROOKERS and BRODINSKI.

Jaunty indie pop rock and cracking good time anthems will be delivered courtesy of THE WOMBATS on Sunday. This young trio are fast carving out a reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting breakthrough acts, and with a string of highly infectious hits already under their belt, come June they can’t possibly fail to ignite Rock Ness.

This latest announcement augments a line up which has so far revealed this year’s Main Stage headliners THE PRODIGY, BIFFY CLYRO, BASEMENT JAXX, DIZZEE RASCAL and ORBITAL.

ROCK NESS 09 takes place on 12, 13 and 14 June, with the MAIN STAGE running across three days for the first time in the festival’s four year history. Campsites will open at 10am on the Friday, with the NESSTIVAL area opening as normal in the afternoon. Offering a diverse weekend of entertainment which fans can enjoy in a beautiful iconic location, ROCK NESS 2009 is shaping up to be the ultimate party and finest start to the festival season.
