Ok kids, I'll try and keep this relatively short and sweet...
I was out in Norway at the Numusic festival the other weekend and as well as catching a consistently high calibre of energetic and diverse acts i managed to be privy to some real stellar gems. One such opus magnus at this top quality five day event, was a musician/performer unbeknown to me apart from buying a rather quirky double 12" picture disk about 4 months ago which included music made from mechanised bird calls and a disco remix. The man behind this brilliant curiosity was known as Kristian Vester or more famously GOODIEPAL and thanks to some nifty foot work he's agreed to do a London show.
This gent is genuinely one of the most atypical and intriguing people working in the Scandinavian music scene today, having released and produced on a serious of illustrious and off beat labels including V/Vm Test Records, Ski-pp and Chicks on Speed, not to mention programming and inventing for companies as diverse as Lego and Nokia which in turn lead to him scoring adverts for films such as The Matrix and Charlie's Angels.
His musical lineage can be traced back to Danish outsiders such as Rued Langgaard and Niels Viggo Gade and then subsequently blown into an almost antediluvian future, if such a thing exists, as Mr Vester is a true artist of the highest weapons grade plutonium moulded and mutated into a human being capable of captivating the most austere of audiences with his idiosyncratic pieces, which may incorporate amongst other things: music boxes, whistles and unhinged intergalactic chess.
Having performed at festivals such as Sonar to weird arts projects nestled in the Essex countryside via the bleak beauty of the Faroe Islands and disused breweries in stormy Stavanger, he is no stranger to the art of sonic seduction and trust me; you'd be a fool to miss dining at this man's impeccable table of musical delights on this fair night.
Next up, on this special eve, is Illinois' first lady of acid/breakcore mash-ups, Miss Libby Floyd aka The Doubtful Guest who'll be gracing us with her presence and conjuring up what is sure to be a storming live set of cutting edge electronic manipulations, that are at times, more jumbled, frenetic and absurd that Videodrome's broadcasting suite. Having released tracks on both Seed Records and Adaadat, this crazy conchita has also been known to partake is some rather obscure remix projects with only the highest tier of sonic illuminati under a variety of quizzical guises. A girl who knows how to rock a party, it is our pleasure to have her cast her magic throughout the inn tonight.
Finally, Le Couteau Jaune Dj's and their special guests will be there to entertain you in between set fires and CS gas attacks with a mischievously miscellaneous mix of anything that resembles sound. Who knows? they may even perform for you. If they do, expect something so dark and sinister you'll be unable to sleep that night in a bed of a thousand teddy bears let alone one. You can, however, definitely catch a special live show by these mysterious creatures on Sat 10th September, when they'll be previewing a new soundscape, FX and horror piece at Shoreditch's, Spread Eagle.
