Play It By Ear Club - A.Human + Mama Shamone + My Toys Like Me
This month’s party is nearly upon us and we’re giving the Duracell Bunny a run for his money with more energy and madness as we play it LOUD and flamboyant with this outrageous lot….
A.HUMAN
www.myspace.com/theahuman
A.Human have been described as many things. A band with electronic-pop freely flowing in their black sails, fine purveyors of gothic disco, and an act who sport one of the best frontmen around – think Ian Curtis meets Brandon Flowers to make one hell of a sexy geek.
Hailed as one of the new hopes for live dance music with their nursery rhymes-cum-seedy-social-tales, we’re ecstatic to have them headline.
“Like Art Brut and Reverend & The Makers, they've got one of those charismatic frontmen destined to become the focal point. Only Dave Human is apparently darker and more disturbed than Eddie Argos or Jon McClure.” Paul Lester, The Guardian
If you like your Shy Child or Metronomy then be sure not to miss out!!
MAMA SHAMONE
www.myspace.com/mamashamone
Many bands are reworking the electronic pop sound of the early 80s at the moment but how many of them can say they’re working with the original architect of that sound?
Martin Rushent – renowned producer of the Human League’s world conquering album, Dare – clearly thinks Mama Shamone are the real deal and once you see this band live, you’ll be a believer too!
They’ve won Channel 4’s Road to V competition, have been Myspace band of the week, won the favour of Mark Ronson and supported Bloc Party and the Rakes and now they play for us!
If you like your Ebony Bones, Santogold and cocknbullkid then don’t miss Mama Shamone!
“Mama Shamone will hit you like an industrial can of beans. All eyes ultimately train on lead singer, Mama. A dirty, flirty, teasing, heavy metal Tina Turner, she climbs walls, commits acts of gratuitous violence. Just watch out for those stiletto heels…” Road to V
One reviewer said watching their blazing punk rock and eerie electro with a carefree attitude was like ‘witnessing history being shaped’ – come down and make up your mind!
MY TOYS LIKE ME
www.myspace.com/mytoyslikeme
With a singer that has been likened to Bjork, MTLM open this month’s party with their haunting chimes and luminous keyboard melodies that can float along like Aphex Twin.
“There are random beeps, squeaks, violins and noises that sound like you've just emptied a fruit machine but it all works amazingly well and despite all of its intricacy and effort it sounds really effortless and beautiful. Dance music demigod Lazlo Legezer has an innate knack for making tunes in a fresh way on the evidence of this song and in Miss Noon he has a unique voice that has qualities of Bjork but is miles apart from her.” Leedsmusicscene.com
