Cambridge Gigs – The Chapman Family to Hot Chip
With whatever summer we’ve had rapidly fading away and river levels rising, the good news is that the music calendar for Cambridge is also full to bursting this coming month.
To start the month, 1st October, The Chapman Family bring their own frenzied family values to The Portland Arms and the month bows out with Hot Chip playing The Corn Exchange on the 30th. Sandwiched in between several other big names are making appearances and there are also plenty of hidden gems.
Starting with the big guns, Enter Shikira, Elbow, and Goldfrapp all precede Hot Chip at The Corn Exchange. At The Junction, British Sea Power bring their eccentricity to town and there’s an opportunity to check the hype surrounding Black Kids. Dirty Pretty Things and The Rascals also make appearances there.
As for those hidden gems, we’ve already mentioned The Chapman Family, add to that a rare chance to see NY electro-punk legends A.R.E. Weapons sharing the bill with highly rated London sonic terrorists Ulterior at Soul Tree on 27th October, the quirky charm of Das Wanderlust at The Portland Arms (14th October) and you can see that it’s looking good. Appearances by Hot Club de Paris, The Datsuns and Japanese all-girl punk-ish band Spookey simply adds to the mix.

Oh yeah, and for those with long memories and who want to re-live them, there’s The Stranglers, Level 42 and Status Quo.
