Caroline Martin + Rose Kemp - Manchester Aug 24th
Pop Art vs. Industry presents:
CAROLINE MARTIN + ROSE KEMP + ED COTTAM + WILL & STEF Wednesday 24th August @ The Bowling Green, Grafton St, Manchester
£4 adv / £5 door
Elusive and secretive, Caroline Martin's stark, dark and frankly disturbing songs captured the attention of one John Peel, for whom she recorded a live session before she'd ever played a live gig. To date Caroline has recorded 5 live sessions for Radio 1 (four for John Peel and one for Rob da Bank). One of the most compelling artists currently recording and performing in the UK, listeners are exorably drawn into and absorbed by the world documented in her songs.
The daughter of Folk legends Maddy Prior and Rick Kemp, Rose Kemp initially tried to emulate her highly accomplished parents. Now she fights her inheritance, her songs riven with an anxiety of influence. Her impossibly rich and reaching voice is laden with centuries of English tradition while her shimmering electric guitars thread paths between the prog of Mogwai and The Mars Volta. She never played Grant in Eastenders, mind.
