Misty's Big Adventure - Manchester 28th Aug
Pop Art vs. Industry present:
MISTY'S BIG ADVENTURE + THE CHEMISTRY EXPERIMENT + NURSING HOME
Sun 28th Aug @ Satan's Hollow, off Princess St., Manchester - £4 adv
After Grandmaster Gareth created the universe he created Misty's Big Adventure from guitar, bass, drums, piano, decks, singing, trumpet, saxophone, cello, theremin, and his large collection of toys and saucepans and garnished with Erotic Volvo (a dancing, beat-boxing, balloon-popping monster). Previously known for creating "An Introduction To Minute Melodies" (a collection of 60 second songs, including the Festive Fifty featured "Dr Dre Buys a Pint Of Milk") the Grandmaster has fronted Misty's for a few years causing psychedelic pop outbursts with a Doo-Dah-ist sense of humour. The Misty's live experience will pummel you into grinning submission with poptasticly eccentric and hopelessly catchy tunes with dryly bizarre takes on mind control, mundanity and murder, amongst other things. PAvI fave Jeffrey Lewis was so blown away that he insisted on taking Misty's out on tour as support act, and that's how we discovered them. New album "Misty’s Big Adventure and their Journey into the Black Hole" (SL Records) comes out in September.
This is no ordinary band. These are no ordinary pop songs.
The Chemistry Experiment take in genres as diverse as prog-rock, folktronica and disco and squirt them out against a backdrop of lush, orchestral pop. From meeting in the snooker halls and lending libraries of Nottingham 5 years ago the band have released a clutch of singles and a compilation on Fortuna Pop! and are just about to release their debut LP proper "The Melancholy Death of…". Its strange rhythms and deceptive arrangements have drawn gushing reviews and comparisons to Pulp, Cinerama, Lambchop and Super Furry Animals. It's just exactly what indie pop should be.
