CALVIN JOHNSON (BEAT HAPPENINGS) LIVERPOOL GIG NEXT WEEK!
Indie legend Calvin Johnson, of seminal band Beat Happening and founder of K Records, will be a very special guest at the next “Liverpool Calling” event, on Friday 1st August at St. Bride’s Church (Catherine St.)
Besides being an idol for Kurt Cobain, Calvin’s music has inspired people such as The Gossip and Beck. He is considered to be one of the instigators of the Riot Grrrl movement and a founder of what is today known as “indie music”.
“Liverpool Calling” is a night run by local fuzz rock band Dirtblonde, who often cover Calvin Johnson’s song “Black Candy” in their set.
The other bands in the line-up are dark indie-pop duo The 10p Mixes and slacker punks Tiger Lily.
Doors open 7pm, £3 entry. It’s a 14+ event so all ages are welcome, and there’s no bar so the audience is advised to bring their own drinks.
