New Fiery Furnaces live album 'Remember'
THE FIERY FURNACES
NEW LIVE RECORD!
"REMEMBER"
Out on Thrill Jockey 8TH SEPTEMBER
Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger, the sibling duo that makes up the core of the Fiery Furnaces, one of the most prolific bands in modern music, have announced an upcoming live album. Hot off the heels of their critically acclaimed Thrill Jockey release "Widow City", "Remember" is a double CD live record (triple LP) to be released in the UK on 8th September.
The Fiery Furnaces are an unparalleled experience in live music. "Remember" captures the high energy, intricate complexity, amazing vocal acrobatics of Eleanor and the technical musicianship that defines a Fiery Furnaces performance. Collecting songs from their entire catalogue and performances across the globe starting in 2005, "Remember" is a special document. When playing live The Fiery Furnaces reconstruct and re-arrange their songs, going to great lengths to create versions that vary greatly from the recorded versions in tempo, instrumentation and arrangements. The band go through this process for each tour, never repeating themselves, and often combining songs in a musical collages that create a new song made up of several - or even of bits of an entire album. These are not your mother's medleys! We know of no other band that goes to such great lengths to reinvent and re-imagine for every tour. As a result, "Remember" is unique as a live record. More than two hours of music appears on "Remember" as it appears nowhere else. Featuring 51 tracks, "Remember" will be issued in deluxe packaging as a limited edition double CD with coupon for bonus tracks and deluxe triple LP gatefold with coupon for downloads plus bonus material.
Having already taken fans on an aural journey to Cairo, The Vietnamese Telephone Ministry, Borneo, Benton Harbor, and the Philadelphia Grand Jury on a Blueberry Boat and back again on a sea of heavy riffs, The Fiery Furnaces decided to soften up their sound and play a decidedly quieter set on their recent tour of the US in Spring this year. Playing as a quartet, Robert D'Amico on drums, Eleanor Friedberger on acoustic guitar, and finally the duelling keyboards of Matt Friedberger and special guest Kyle Hollingsworth (Jason Lowenstein is touring with Sebadoh).
The Fiery Furnaces embraced the grand traditions of democracy (inspired by the coming elections) by holding audience caucuses on their last tour, allowing them to vote not only on what songs they played, but even on what the band sang about. The band came up with a clever moniker for this process: "Democ-Rock". The "votes" were accepted on whatever scraps of paper the audience could produce and thrown onstage. The resulting collection of old receipts, dry-cleaning tickets, grocery lists and crumpled love letters were then used to construct new songs. Songs created by the people, for the people. The Fiery Furnaces want you to help make the details of your life, the soundtrack to your life! Avid voters were treated to the best of these newly created "DEMOC" songs from the previous tour on the spring outings this year (with new arrangements of course!). Our noble ambassadors of "Democ-Rock" also allowed the citizen-fan-audience to help create new songs on the spot.
VOTE YES to "DEMOC-ROCK"! VOTE YES to triple-LP live records! REMEMBER The Fiery Furnaces!
