Fri July 4th - HDIF at the 100 Club
Hello!
Following on from our Smiths special at the 100 Club in January, we present another HDIF at the 100 Club, this time with guest DJ Darren Hayman of Hefner.
As this night coincides with Morrissey's appearance in Hyde Park, I've been listening to a show called "My Top Ten" that he recorded with Radio One DJ Andy Peebles in 1984. For some reason, I thought his all-time top ten would be full of David Bowie and New York Dolls songs, but in fact the young Moz was a bit of a Motown and northern soul fan. He selects songs by Timi Yuro and the Marvelettes, as well as "Be Young Be Foolish Be Happy" by The Tams (cue images of the youthful Steven Patrick singing joyfully along with the chorus!). He also chooses a spectacular song by Sandie Posie called "I Take It Back", which sounds like Patsy Cline fronting The Shangri-Las. It all couldn't be more up our street if it tried, to be honest, so we'll be playing a few choice cuts from Morrissey's 1984 Top Ten at the club on Friday night. I'll also be adding the New York Dolls to the HDIF playlist on Friday night, in honour of their playing Hyde Park with Morrissey. The Dolls mean an awful lot to me, so it'll be a pleasure to play some of their classics.
Hope to see you on Friday!
