WITH SUPPORT FROM THE CLIFTONS AND SPY MOVIE
The "Disco Furries" Guto Pryce (bass) and Huw "Bunf" Bunford (guitar) return to Pinup Nights for another night of dancefloor madness on Friday 2nd May. The first Pinups at the Winchester ( www.winchesterclubglasgow.com ) last month was great but this one should knock it into a hat.
Support comes from Canadian band Trike ( www.myspace.com/trikeaband ) - who have financed their European tour by winning $16,000 on a Canadian TV talent show with their "Pulp and Taking Heads-esque art-pop", and local acts Marlow (big brash rock from Falkirk - www.myspace.com/marlow_music ), The Kick (Interpol/Bloc Party type drama - www.myspace.com/thekickmusic ) and Member of the Wedding (stripped down serious song writing - www.myspace.com/memberofthewedding ). The previous appearance by the Super Furry Welsh Wonders in April 2006 was one of the most raucous Pinups ever and sold out by 11.30pm - so we recommend advance booking. Tickets on the night will be £6 but you can snap them up in advance here for a fiver www.threadsofsound.com/pinupnights or from Tickets Scotland.
Also on Saturday 3rd May The Rosie Taylor Project will be at The Beat Club for an evening of "soulful sun-warmed folk". They ( www.myspace.com/therosietaylorproject ) are from Leeds and release their debut album "This City Draws Maps" on Bad Sneakers Records on April 21st. They play heartfelt songs of love and loss with an assured pop sensibility. Think Nick Drake, Iron & Wine, Fionn Regan and Belle & Sebastian - melodic acoustic pop with beautiful melodies and infectious hooks.
Local support bands are The Cliftons and Spy Movie (formerly Mouse Eat Mouse). I tried an acoustic "Pinup Flights" at the RAFA in November 2006 and it was a flop but I'm going to try again. So if you like this type of music please come along. A fiver on the night, advance tickets are £4 from www.threadsofsound.com/pinupnights or Tickets Scotland.
Lastly the proper Pinups site www.pinup-nights.co.uk remains broken but clicking on it will redirect you to the MySpace, to which I have added pictures from the first visit of the Super Furries (some previously unseen), Barry Futurehead's DJ set from October 2007, 24 Hour Party Pinups and a "Mists of Time" selection from 2005 and earlier! Terrifying scenes I can assure you.
Thanks for reading
