The Easy Star All-Stars, whose reggae version of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon has spent over two years on Billboard’s Top Reggae Chart and sold in excessive of 100,000 copies, return to the United Kingdom for a week of live dates in early July. The group wowed British audiences in July 2004, with a string of sell-out shows and festival appearances including a show stopping performance at The Big Chill. Adding to the excitement is the all star collective’s personnel for this outing: the group will be joined by reggae legend Ranking Joe and Groove Collective leader Jay Rodriguez.
The current touring version of the Easy Star All-Stars already features a stellar line-up of musicians who have toured and recorded with Gil Scott-Heron, Burning Spear, Toots and the Maytals, The Meditations, DJ Logic, MC Solaar, Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, Dennis Brown, Monty Alexander, and many others. Jay Rodriguez will be filling in on saxophone and flute for the week; best known for his groundbreaking work in Groove Collective, Jay has played with a diverse list of stars that includes Prince, James Brown, Miles Davis, BB King, and Tupac Shakur.
As for Ranking Joe, he is well known to English audiences, as he was resident deejay with both U Roy’s King Sturgav Sound System and Ray Symbolic Hi-Fi, which was the first Jamaican sound system to tour England in 1980. He has been recording since the late ‘70s, scoring Jamaican hits with producers Coxsone Dodd, Sonia Pottinger, Dennis Brown, and of course performing on Dub Side of The Moon.
For the London show only Easy Stars All-stars special guests will be UK dub-fuelled ska sensation Pama International, who’ll be promoting their upcoming release Dub Store Special ep. Produced by Groove Corporation (previously mixed Bob Marley, Dillinger, Bim Sherman, Sly & Robbie and Yabby You) and featuring The Specials’ Lynval Golding, Madness’ Lee Thompson plus members from Steel Pulse, PWEI, Galliano, Style Council and Bentley Rhythm Ace it promises to be the soundtrack to this and any other summer. Believe the hype!
To date Pama Intl have releases 3 critically acclaimed albums, recorded a bombastic Radio One Session, sold-out tours of Italy, Switzerland & UK, played triumphant sets at Glastonbury´04 plus signed deals in USA, Germany, France, Italy , Japan, Switzerland & Spain. Their recordings have been championed on the airwaves and sound systems the world over including here at home with David Rodigan-Kiss 100, xfm and Mike Davies on Radio One. As well as Dub Store Special ep summer highlights for Pama Intl include Womad and The Reggae Festival of Wales alongside Black Uhuru, Johnny Osbourne and many other legends.
