LIVERPOOL CALLING - ace night w/ live acts + cool music!
Liverpool Calling is back, to bring ace live acts and great music to whoever is interested, in Liverpool.
We'll start with an amazing lineup at Korova
LIVERPOOL CALLING COMEBACK EXTRAVAGANZA
@ KOROVA, Friday 8th February.
Doors 8pm, entry only £1 before 9pm, and £2 after. Bands who are our friends on Myspace only pay £1 at any time.
Bands:
DIRTBLONDE (http://www.dirtblonde.co.uk)
"they look and sound like a cross between Sid n Nancy and Bonnie n Clyde fed through a fuzz box. The guitarist looks like he's been on a crash course of rock n roll behaviour with The Cribs...[the band] ends up trashing the set, and smashing his guitar into a glass bottle at the entrance of the venue. They seem to leave the audience speechless." BBC Leeds
PENNY BROADHURST(http://www.myspace.com/pennybroadhurst)
For the first time in Liverpool, the respected singer/poet who's performed at Glastonbury, Latitude and Wireless Festivals. She was shortlisted by the BBC World Service for their Next Big Things of 2007. She is fantastic!
"I love being surprised. Very clear sound. Contemporary. Chart material. Find yourself a record deal - or at least people who recognize a good thing when they hear it. Asap." - Nina de Man
"Penny Broadhurst is our prime minister in another life." - Caffy St Luce
"A good strong dose of Northern attitude or humour. I'm sure if you put Penny Broadhurst into the internet you'll find out plenty about her...if you dare!" - Patrick Wolf
JEWEL THIEF (http://www.myspace.com/jewelthiefband)
Commanders-in-Chief of Swampy, bluesy, garage-rock in Liverpool. Their trousers are as fashionable as their sound is dirty. We can't get enough of them! Ace!
LITTLE VOLCANOES (http://www.myspace.com/littlevolcanoes)
Those mancunians are flying the flag of romantic, glam pop-rock in the vein of Suede. Wonderfully eccentric guitar pop music. Songs such as "Stranger Than Hollywood" and "Scars" sound like classics. Don't miss this first opportunity of catching them in Liverpool!
FRAKTURES (http://www.myspace.com/frakturestheband)
While obviously disciples of the Buzzcocks, their tunes hold enough charm, personality and catchy hooks to still stand on their own. Who's seen them live knows - a great band!
OUR NEW NOISES (http://www.myspace.com/ournewnoises)
Angular dance-punk meets Flashdance chic in the mould of Art Brut/iForward Russia!/Maccabees. Apparently. Reminds us a bit of bands like Popular Workshop. They make a good new noise...a quite promising new band!
“Had a listen and was pleasently suprised! Not just saying that, a lot of bands ask me/us to listen to stuff and we never usually do due to time constraints etc. But thought the songs were really cool, a bit Art Brut, Ikara Colt with quite a distinctive NY sound. Really liked it.” - MURPH (THE WOMBATS)
DON'T MISS IT! COME!
