Just letting you know about a ecologically aware music night i'm running this saturday, Dec. 15th, called Power Down, at The Islington Arts Factory, 2 Parkhurst Road, Holloway, N7 0SF, LONDON, England.

Doors will be at 8pm and music on shortly after as there is quite a few acts on this time, and the possibility of a surprise and secret performance. Entrance is £5. I'm sure you're having a work's Christmas party, or something similar, but sod all that free drink and canapés. Let us take your emissions (most of them) offline for an evening, and enjoy yourself with a lighter conscience, assuming you have one, bwoahaha!

As usual, the music will be completely unamplified, but will be held in the main hall of an old church , with divine acoustics. There will be no refrigeration or heating on in the whole building, so wrap up warm! Lighting will be provided in the form of candles made from a mixture of candle wax from old redundant candles, and second hand vegetable oil from the local chip shop. The only electricity in the building will be used to light certain uneven and potentially hazardous areas for health and safety reasons. Locally produced or organic beer, wine (option of home-made mulled wine) and spirits will be on sale at reasonable prices. Home-made organic mince pies will also be on sale. There will be sprigs of mistletoe hanging in dark corners for clandestine Christmas kisses...or "pashes" for the antipodeans amongst you.

And the music will be as follows, please check them out from the Power Down site at the bottom, they are all quite stunning, myself excluded (!): Pop sensation Lemond stripped bare Prog banshee Rebecca Jade (formerly known as Science) accompanied by spectres Tall Stories with their amusing gurns and tall stories, Stoke Newington Soul Prince, Liam Bailey with Sam Carter on guitar (played the first Power Down) And my new band, Marmaduke and The Mooche

At normal gigs, where one is forced to pay £6 standard to see 4 shit indie bands with atrocious sound, no-one questions where the money made on the night goes. With this in mind, I'm always perplexed when people demand where the money for Power Down goes, when the music we put on has so far been eclectic, of an extremely high quality, the event being a novel concept and all for a good cause. Well I'll tell you now. The money from the door is split very fairly between the artists, with Power Down taking a cut to continue with more events and the enhancement of them. The Islington Arts Factory will make money on the drinks. The Islington Arts Factory is a charity, gets barely no funding from the local council, so any extra money they can make from the odd event helps to keep them afloat.

What else is there to mention..., please tell everyone you can, and lets have a wonderful knees-up to celebrate Christmas, and the awareness that peak oil and climate change has received this year. A long long way to go yet, but there has been progress made. Hope to see you on the 15th.
