Dufus + Jeffrey Lewis in Manchester - Mon 9th May
Pop Art vs. Industry presents:
Dufus + Jeffrey Lewis+ Former Bullies
Mon 9th May @ Jabez Clegg, Manchester (off Oxford Rd, near Uni)
£5 adv
An ace double-bill of two awesome acts from the NYC Anti-Folk scene.
Dufus is a no-fi psychedelic collective of singers, musicians and dancers (composed of about 40 people who are members of one or more of: Fun Wearing Underwear, the Dorkestra and the Doofamily) based around the exhilaratingly unhinged mind of Seth Quankmeyer Faergolzia. Sounding like a cross between Daniel Johnston, Jack Kerouac and free-Dixie, The Village Voice describes them as "An encyclopedia of so-called outsider music condensed into a Downtown pagan mystery meeting", which is pretty accurate, and a promise of something very exciting.
Jeffrey Lewis is no stranger to Manchester, having blown many, many minds with his no-fi academic pop, sci-fi punk and low budget videos (large ragged comic books displayed to accompany songs). He's released 2 albums on Rough Trade, both of which are brilliant, and seeing as it's Manchester we may be treated to his deconstruction of the history of The Fall.
Support comes from the mighty, mighty Manchester lo-fi institution that is Former Bullies; Northern England's finest Dando-esque 2-piece.
