Damaged Goods proudly present a brand new 4 track, split 7” featuring two tracks by Holly Golightly & The Brokeoffs, (who as I’m sure you know by now are the dynamic duo of Holly Golightly and Lawyer Dave) and Portland, Oregon’s Stratford Sparrows on July 16th 2007.
Here’s what Holly & Dave had to say about their recordings for this single (which are not on their recently released debut album ‘You Can’t Buy A Gun When You’re Crying’)
Holly says to an inebriated Lawyer Dave, "Right, we've got to record two songs for this split with The Stratford Sparrows. Right now."
"Alrighty then." saith Dave, "Let's git to it." After a brief reintroduction to the tunes and a clumsy microphone setup the recording was underway. Shortly thereafter, it was so.
"Well then, that was an adventure." Holly and Dave said in unison. And then there was silence.”
The Lawyer tried his best to develop the film in his mind with the contaminated chemicals still left in that dark room some would call a brain. He had spent the day before "assembling" the two foot cubed box that would be his kick drum for the upcoming tour and was in fact excited about the prospects of hearing it on tape.
The STRATFORD SPARROWS are from Portland, Oregon, started in June of 2006. The Rev. Joe alighted there from San Francisco. After making it though the many trials of life in the City of Roses, he began hearing the sounds of harmony vocals, clean Telecasters, and reverb. He obtained a recording device and brought it back to the humble Stratford apartments. He met the fair Miss Bryna in Japanese class and asked her to put her sweet voice to good use. She said yes and the hit making commenced.
Taking inspiration from classic country music, the mighty Willamette River, and the 100 year old building that houses them, the Stratford Sparrows made music all summer long. Rev. Joe called on his friend Holly and a record was born.
