Pocketbooks are an indiepop band from London, brought together through a shared love of tambourines, handclaps, glockenspiels, jangly guitars and boy/girl harmonies. They feature on the sold out 'Kids At The Club' compilation alongside the likes of Saturday Looks Good To Me, Voxtrot and I'm From Barcelona and are the headliners of the sold out first ever Indie Tracks night in Derbyshire. THE BESTIES
www.myspace.com/thebesties
The Besties are a Brooklyn based party band. They get the usual 'indiepop' and 'twee' tags, which are mildly justified, but this is a band who couldn't give a hoot about the history of Sarah Records and C86. They just want to have fun and make you dance like a fool. Chances are they'll succeed quite easily. They remind us of sexy people like Go Sailor, Mirah and Tilly & The Wall.
A SMILE & A RIBBON
www.asmileandaribbon.com
There has never been a bad sounding band from Sweden. Ever. Right? A Smile & A Ribbon continue the tradition of spanking out gorgeous pop song after gorgeous pop with the traditional Scandinavian charm. They're pop, doo-wop and once again are just gagging to be danced to. They also get extra kudos for releasing their last LP through the always excellent Shelflife Records.
THE DEIRDRES
www.myspace.com/thedeirdres
Derby based glockenspiel wielding 7-piece musical tidal wave with a shared love of spooning, unfashionable glasses, poor harmonies and communal clapping.
At The Red Room, Rescue Rooms, Goldsmith Street, Nottingham (Map)
Doors are at 8pm
Entry is £4 adv. (Tickets available from www.alt-tickets.co.uk and Rock City b/o)

ROSE MELBERG (Ex-Tiger Trap, Go Sailor, The Softies)
www.myspace.com/rosemelberg
Flippin' heck, it's Rose Melberg in the UK - a first! Rose Melberg is a lady with a rich musical history behind her. She's rocked with seminal riot grrrl band Tiger Trap (K Records), gone hand clap mad with Go Sailor (Lookout Records), been all pretty and folky with The Softies (K Records / Slumberland Records) and had strong links with legends such as Calvin Johnson throughout her musical career. Her latest solo release is called 'Cast Away The Clouds' on Double Agent Records and it jumps around between jazz, folk and plenty of nods towards her indiepop roots. The common theme that she's been consistantly brilliant and it's an honour to get her to play here in Nottingham. A must see because it's going to be bloody lovely.
THE PARALLELOGRAMS
www.myspace.com/theparallelograms
Sheffield twee-pop-punk influenced by the likes of Talulah Gosh, The Shop Assistants and The Primitives. They also play in a tribute band playing the songs of indiepop legeneds The Rosehips. Perfect for a bit of a dance before Rose Melberg.
At Lee Rosy's Tea, Broad Street, Nottingham (Map)
