Named after the '70s TV series "Police Woman" Joan As Police Woman is the solo project of New York based Joan Wasser known from her loud serrated bands The Dambuilders, Black Beetle (which she formed with Jeff Buckley's band) and Those Bastard Souls, or playing more subtly and quietly in Antony's Johnsons or Rufus Wainwright's band, but Joan As Policewoman’s new solo release Real Life ( Out on Reveal) introduces a new musical persona. Remarkable vocals ebb and flow between woozy lows and flourishing highs. Rich yet gritty and sassy “her voice, songs and stage presence have garnered comparisons to Nina Simone, Dusty Springfield, Prince and Chrissie Hynde - but comparisons will never do justice to her unique voice and brazen attitude” DROWNED IN SOUND.
“A voice so wondrous and moving that it makes everyone else's seem ordinary and mundane, the indie generation's Dusty Springfield. “ THE TELEGRAPH
