Deep Cut debut single "Commodity" released May 7th
DEEP CUT "Commodity"/"Freezer Burn"
Deep Cut is a new band with some pedigree making noise around London at the moment. The band's line up is vocalist Emma Bailey, guitarist Mat Flint and bassist Simon Flint. Mat Flint was founder member of early 90's Virgin/Hut band Revolver, and has played bass in Death In Vegas for ten years. Mat was also resident dj at Heavenly Social for four years. This first single Commodity has been produced by Tim Holmes from DiV.
Commodity is indie pop at its best. Strawberry Switchblade meets Jesus & Mary Chain, maybe a bit of Lush in there, or even Curve. Fuzzy laid back guitars and glacial vocals, 21st century Motown resplendent with thumping drum licks and guitars pilled up to the eyeballs.
The band are obsessive music fans and cite influences ranging from New Order, Arthur Lee & Love, Primal Scream, 60s girl groups, Phil Spector, MBV, The Byrds, Dinosaur Jr, The Jesus & Mary Chain, 60s psych/garage, early B-52's, Tamla Motown, Oasis, through to northern soul and the Smiths.
"Commodity" is released on May 7th on Club AC30's new As And When label, and can be pre-ordered from here: www.clubac30.com/releases. It is already picking up airplay, including BBC6 Music's Gideon Coe.
