Blue Oyster Cult collides head-on with Godspeed You! Black Emperor, while Shellac and Stravinsky get mangled by the BBC Radio phonic Workshop.

Witches continue their eternal quest for pure pop perfection. I sense they are not quite there yet, but tonight's breezy set glistens like that verboten sugared doughnut you know you shouldn't indulge in, the guilty pop pleasure when all that shouting and angst gets too much. Barely-there anti-riffs provide an apt background for Dave's tongue-in-cheek lyrical delivery and it helps that they have expanded not only in sound but in number too. Undoubtedly more comfortable in their skin now, while still searching for their place in the world, here is a band that seems to enjoy the journey as much as the goal. And for that, we salute them.
