* SHEPHERDS PI are a musical melange of every band you've fell in love withover the past 2 years. The witty lyricism of Alex Turner and Mike Skinner, the knack for a pop hook like The Kooks, the joy you felt when you first witnessed The Magic Numbers or The Polyphonic Spree. Based around the vocal talents of Rupert Hill, the rapping bass player Sam Stockman and the lush harmonies of Ms Hazeldine. At the back on the tubthumper Claire Russell creates a symmetry that alligns them as the indie Abba (or a better looking Magic Numbers for those too cool for school).
Shepherds Pi recently entered the O2 Undiscovered Competition and reached the final 10 out of 6000 entrants and this headline gig at Designer Magazine's In The City Preview should mark the gig where they go stellar!!!
* SPOONS follow in the tradition of Oasis and The Stone Roses as the last gang in town and bring back a much needed attitude to the Manchester music scene, which of late was fast becoming a walking advertisement for skinny Topman manikins and fashionistas. Along with the likes of The Young Offenders Institute and the Council Pop bands Orphan Boy and The Pedestrians the Mancunian scene has never looked better. The 5 piece Chorlton based band, average age 18, scraped together to record rough demos of tracks "The Tree That Could..." and "Kinder Scout" and although rough around the edges the demos have been compared to the much bootlegged early Stone Roses demo sessions. Listening to the classics such as The Smiths, The Pixies and Joy Division the band have attracted wide and diverse opinions with everything from "Oasis meets Blazin Squad" to "Like Boy
Kill Boy...only with better tunes" through to "Spoons - a band on the cusp of greatness"
* DEAR ESKIIMO are the bastard offspring of Outkast, The Sound Of Music, Space, Alisha's Attic and Goldfrapp. The sort of band you'd imagine if Richard X and Brian Higgins got together with Andre 3000 whilst creating a frankenstein's monster out of every member of Girls Aloud, who had in turn been fed on a diet of Broadway Musicals. The fact that they actually look as
good as they sound makes the whole spectacle even more alluring.
* THE TIGERPICKS - It all started as a mess about. Whilst dog-sitting a small ginger fox, three friends (the then unamed 'tigerpicks') sat at an antique piano just messing around with beats and bass in early October 2005. It sparked off some musical mayhem, in which the band considered, feasibly,to be the most experimental, alternative-electro-pop-punk-rock-glam-disco-sleaze-shabby-chic band for miles around. With random bass riffs touching on
brilliancy and thought-provoking, primarily obscure lyrics. With possibly the most catchiest tunes under their belts, the band found their name - The Tigerpicks. This derived from the antics of the previous year, which included porcelain tigers and toothpicks... a story remembered....never shared.
