MONKEY SWALLOWS THE UNIVERSE
Monkey Swallows the Universe are an acoustic indiepop band from Sheffield, centred around the original founding duo of Nat Johnson & Kevin Gori, who formed the band in 2004. The band expanded in 2005 to include Catherine Tully on violin, Andy George on cello & Rob Dean on drums. In February 2006 the band released their debut album 'The Bright Carvings', on the independent record label Thee Sheffield Phonographic Corporation and released a single with Thee SPC in July 2006. The band have supported Mercury-nominated Richard Hawley and Camera Obscura on tour. They have performed sessions on both BBC Radio 6 and XFM. They have been variously described as "something special" (Stylus Magazine), "big big news" (Rough Trade) and "boss" (Richard Hawley.).

FANFARLO
Last year the then 23-year-old Simon Aurell left his native Sweden and moved to London, armed only with a headful of songs and a laptop on which to record them. A cdr of 4 songs was duly produced and as Simon sold or gave them away people began to sit up and take notice. A band was assembled with country music aficionado Justin Finch (bass) and multi-instrumentalist Leon Beckenham (Keys, Trumpet). Gigs followed, including prestigious support slots for Guillemots, Semifinalists and Love Is All, for promoters as diverse as White Heat and How Does It Feel To To Be Loved? (to whose compilation album they also contributed a track), and in places as far away as New Zealand. Influenced by The Arcade Fire, Sufjan Stevens, Pavement, Neutral Milk Hotel and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! the band release their debut single on Fortuna POP! this month with an album to follow in the new year. This is fall in love, take no prisoners pop at its very best. They’re out for your heart. Get ready to have it stolen.
“One of the most affecting songs I’ve heard this year, like a more scaled-down, vulnerable Arcade Fire with achingly mournful vocals.” (Tasty fanzine)

POCKETBOOKS
Pocketbooks are an indiepop band from London, with a fondness for handclaps, harmonies and jangly guitars. The band appear on the new How Does It Feel To Be Loved? compilation and played their first gig in July 2006. Think Camera Obscura, The Pastels, Belle and Sebastian, The Sundays and Tindersticks.

THE MARY EPWORTH BAND
Mary Epworth writes music with roots in country and folk, filtered through a love of sunshine pop, gypsy music and psychedelia. The band have been compared to "a seafaring mazzy star" and "like Kristin Hersh covering Johnny Cash” but most people say they sound like "dark dark folk" Crazy Horse, The Band, Fairport, etc.
