Matthew Dear - Beams
Beams is an earworm. Not in the sense of catchiness producing a substantially more pleasant variation of palinacousis, but instead serving as the auditory embodiment of the sensation such a parasite would create if it were to escape from its rather restrictive status as a metaphor.
Expect cyclical, tunnelling basslines, synths and percussion that swell and burst like air pockets, Dear’s voice sparse and creeping - oftentimes downright creepy. But look beyond this shrouding atmosphere of woozy darkness and you’ll be rewarded with frequent moments of rich musical inventiveness and aching poignancy.
