Basket Case? Lightspeed Chumpion records Green Day album
Mike_Diver by Mike Diver September 7th, 2007

Dev Hynes - aka Lightspeed Champion - has recorded an album of Green Day covers. Which is a shame, as we were holding out for a Weezer collection. G'wan, Dev. Please?

Apparently Hynes has plans to release his versions of Green Day classics sometime int he near future, probably digitally only. In related news, a new Lightspeed Champion EP, I Wrote And Recorded This In Less Than Five Hours, is available online. Of it Hynes says (as told to NME.com):

"It's called I Wrote And Recorded This In Less Than Five Hours. I recorded in at V Festival. I went there on my own. I was fired up by seeing all those bands and I wrote and recorded the songs in five hours.

"It's totally different to my album . There's a rocky song on it, a tribal song and a sort of electro song on it."

Lightspeed Champion's debut album is out next year. There's a copy of it here in the office. No, you can't have it.

Lightspeed Champion live dates:

October
1 Birmingham Bar Academy
2 London 100 Club
3 BristLOL Fleece
5 Manchester Roadhouse
6 Glasgow King Tut's
7 Leeds Cockpit
8 Nottingham Social

And 'Chump' is a Green Day song, of course. We're not dissing the man Dev. We like him. Yup.
