DiS Fest: This Weekend!
sean by Sean Adams June 25th, 2001
Drownedinsound.com presents...
Fighting Gravity :Battling the Musicworld from the Underground
@ The Kiva, King Street, Weymouth
Friday June 29th - Sunday July 1st 2001.

The event launches on Friday with an evening of Dj's playing the best in hip-hop, funk, alternative grooves and drum'n'bass; with break dancing and live music from local acoustic-funk-rockers LUNCH.

Saturday, is when [spunge] come for a skank beside the seaside. Heradled as one of the UK's hottest live acts, they come bearing a gift, shunning the music scene away from Americana and injecting a newer take on 2tone, punk and ska. Lauded by the music press, adored by smiling, bouncing souls the length and breadth of the UK, picking up even more fans with recent support slots at Brixton Academy, festivals and endless streams of touring; the future for [spunge] is a blindingly bright one.

Drownedinsound.com have insured a pick of the countries hottest support acts, whom may not be anywhere near household names with rich editorial sitting on the tables of suburbia but it's the only a matter of time. Playing live will be Oxford based JOR, bringing their own twist of rap and hardcore, rapcore! Energetic ejections of passion to be expected. My DaD JoE are Watford boys with a guitar to grind in the run-away railroad tracks of Blink182 and Weezer, whilst packing a punch with their irrestiably pogo punk-pop friendly pleasers. Opening up the event will be Evil Macaroni, currently on tour, making their way around the country from Peterborough with a ska-punk gleam to bring the summer alive.

The evening will be completed with the finest punk and rock on the decks until 2am. Saturday Only Tickets are £8 in advance from the Kiva but will be more on the door if the event is not yet sold out but at a slightly higher price(tbc).

A local battle of the bands takes place on Sunday. Acts are still being confirmed and there is still a little room for anyone(local can be anywhere, aslong as you're not looking to get paid) looking to play e-mail if you want in. The prize will be a feature on Drownedinsound.

A special Weekend Ticket is available for the sum of £8 available from The Kiva. Tickets are strictly limited to 300.
See ya there!
