thisgirl on their split: thanks and final gig news
Mike_Diver by Mike Diver November 15th, 2006

Yorkshire-based rockers thisgirl are to split after seven years together.

The band - Liam, Chris, Matt and Ryan - are to play a farewell show at Cardiff's Point on December 14, supported by Douglas. The Welsh pop-punks - former tourmates of Hundred Reasons - are reforming especially for the Cardiff show.

Drummer Ryan sent DiS a little note via the medium of e-mail:

Well, there comes a time for everything to come to an end... and for new things to begin! Thanks to everyone for everything they ever did (or didn't) do to keep thisgirl rockin for seven long years.

Cardiff should be a blast... one big fuckin' drink-up to say thanx... we might even pull out some super old choons!

Mad love,
Ryz

The band also sent out a MySpace bulletin outlining their split a couple of days ago:

So this is a deliberate attempt to avoid an over dramatised and desolate broadcast, however it is not without a heavy heart that I have to announce the end of thisgirl.

After seven years and 1,000s of shows played we have decided to hang up our spurs. All is good though, we’ve had an amazing time and as a result of playing awkward music we got to get drunk in different countries and meet some amazing people!

For now though you only need to know one thing… our last show!!

Anyone from back in the day will remember our long-time friends DOUGLAS. Well they were phenomenal and sadly ended before their time in 2004. Now they reforming for a one-off show in Cardiff on December 14th and they’ve kindly asked us to join them. It will be a very fitting conclusion to the last six years of thisgirl and we couldn’t be happier to play our last show alongside our homeboys. There will be super old tunes to sing along to and the aftershow is sure to last for days.

If it is at all possible in your lives, make sure you come along for the party.

Mad love from all of us, and thanks to everyone who ever came to a show, bought a shirt, bought us a drink, got a tattoo of our logo, made a website for us, came and worked for us, asked for a picture or an autograph or played a show with us. Most importantly we'd like to thank to anyone who ever gave a fuck about four kids from Rotherham who thought it might be fun to play in a band...

December 14th 2006 - Point, Cardiff, WALES

Look out for new projects involving members of thisgirl, there'll undoubtedly be some.
