DiS at the Barfly pt.2 - thisgirl & tera:tora LIVE!
DiS at the Barfly pt.2 - thisgirl & tera:tora LIVE!
crablin by Colin Roberts November 17th, 2005
DrownedinSound.com presents...

DiS Club @ the Barfly. Take 2.

Intro: My word. Last months pirate-themed DiS 5th Birthday Party was something else. This time, we're going to blow the roof off. Live music from the awesome rock-reinvigorators thisgirl and the lethally catchy spazzy-disco kids tera:tora and some of the most indie-disco fun you can have. The DiS Club is now the 4th Friday of every month at the Camden Barfly.

thisgirl
The best live band in the UK, nay, quite possibly the world return to London having just played a massive festival in Warsaw, with new songs from new album due in 2006.. Expect handstands on drums, vocals penetrating the ceiling and guitars played in a hurricane. They make uncompromising Faith No More-esque, Kyuss-via-Stevie-and-Wacko-inspired space-rock with a sniff of jazz, all wrapped in the energy of a thousand extreme sport videos. Debut album 'Uno' out now on Drowned in Sound Recordings.
"...killer tunes and stadium-sized, Foo Fighter-shaped choruses, without ever betraying their hardcore roots" - NME
"...a barrage of highly intelligent rock that has seen the band erroneously bagged as Emo or nu-metal when it's actually on its own fierce tip, reinventing rock to suit themselves." - John Robb, Playlouder

tera:tora
Spazzy-disco is coming to get you. Featuring Shaun from The Murder of Rosa Luxemburg (RIP) and some of the catchiest riffs in existence, grazing against time changes and otherwordly lyricism. A very special new band.

DJS!

We're still to audition our SPECIAL GUEST DJs, but for now, we have...

Fisher Price Soundsystem
Their Max Carlish remix is legendary. Their DJing makes people laugh so much their sick and dance so awkardly they'll break their spines. The only DJs you'll probably ever hear mixing Sinatra with Tupac and Squarepusher into Antony & The Jonsons. SERIOUSLY!

Drowned in Sound DJs
Don't worry, we will probably play some Interpol and Shins.

Young & Lost DJs
We had the Sara half of the Y&L troublesomely pretty twosome last month, now they tag team some hits from their label into indie party anthems and Adam Green cover versions.

On screen: Robert Rodriguez's amazing El Mariachi/Desparado trilogy, made most famous for Once Upon a Time in Mexico starring Johnny Depp. In tribute there's cheap Tequila, consumption of Corona is encouraged and we're all going for Mexican beforehand!

Doors open at 10:30.
Tickets are £5 in advance available here
Or £8 on the door.
