So are Macs actually as good as the adverts make out?

I need a new laptop. I use my laptop for writing lyrics, film scripts etc. on, surfing the internet, listening to music and watching US TV shows.

If I had decent software I might also use it for recording/constructing music and designing flyers etc.

Should I get a PC or a Mac?
