The 'unethical' editing of imagery

dove_from_above [Edit] [Delete] 15:29, 24 May '07

Occaisonally, I can be a bit of a geek. Only occaisonally, mind. And I've just been perusing this:

http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article2838.htm

I find it all really interesting. Especially when compared to CNN's account of the same story:

http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/04/09/sprj.irq.statue/

So if you believe the first link, the whole thing was just a massive US staged public relations exercise. Which isn't in anyway surprising. BUT (my little insignificant mind began to wander), how can we believe the imagery from the first link anyway? Is not just as easy manipulated? Personally I don't believe it has been, but it's somewhat of a headfuck nonetheless

It reminds me of Adnan Hajj, the Reuters photographer who was sacked for doctoring those pictures a few years ago. And then a bit of noseying (sp?) about led me to a similar story, but with the Los Angeles Times

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/photo/essays/vanRiper/030409.htm

I'm guessing this kind of thing has been going on for decades, even back before our newfound reliance on Photoshop et al (UFO sightings blah blah blah). Anybody got any other significant examples of stuff like this? I'm feeling geeky and if it's any good I might try and incorporate it into my exam next week
