Getting a pet / allergies - a dilemma

doctornovocalcords [Edit] [Delete] 16:43, 23 May '07

I'm moving into a new flat shortly which I will partially own, so I can get a pet finally. I would ideally like a dog (I have finally given up on my Highland cow ideas for now) but realistically that would be cruel in a London flat with me out all day.
I am therefore planning to get a cat or possibly two.
However, in the past I have shown some signs of animal allergies but only on occasion. Do any of you have pet allergies? I'm wondering if it is something that can be tested for before I commit to buying the animal, or will I be looking at taking antihistamines or whatever for the rest of my life? Should I get a hairless cat or a less allergenic breed even though they might look funny?
