If he'd managed to stay alive, Sid Vicious - real name John Simon Ritchie/Beverley - would have been 50 today. When he was young his mother (Anne Ritchie) and he lived in London, Ibiza, Kent (where Anne married his stepfather, Christopher Beverley, who died six months later), London again and Somerset, where Sid was a pupil at Clevedon Secondary Modern.

After his death in 1979, the school assembly held a minute's silence for him and remembered his contributions to school life as the reason the school had the best trained fire drills in the country.
