My pregnant colleague reckons that even an average 1 year old is less intelligent than your average dog, whereas I reckon a newborn baby is more intelligent than a dog.

I don't reckon dogs improve in intelligence as they get older: they just learn what not to eat/lick/put their nose on, whereas the human brain is massively advanced and is already learning and processing stuff.
