what albums might you suggest one starts with? Astral Weeks might be the obvious answer, but is it the right one?

I've got some kind of 'collection' cd but it's very hit and miss, and i have some other songs from other places, but i want MORE and i want it to be good. So, suggestions please.

Also, what other similar artistes might one such as myself investigate?
