mine is well established and very important

1 star - mere recognition. i give a song 1 star when i hear it for the first time and there's something about it that i like. it means i can find it later. also recognition for songs that i like but can't give 2 stars because i think the person / band is wack

2 stars - good song. better than 1 star, not quite amazing.

3 stars - few make it this far. no hip hop or house makes it further than this.

4 stars - one of my favourite songs (typically melacholy for some reason - more evocative perhaps)

5 stars only about 10 i own. includes arcade fire, nick drake
