Growing out of...

...The Shins...
For years, if I had to choose one, I would say that they were my favourite band, and in a way I think they formed who I am today. (an image, a perspective? I'm not sure. Sorry if I'm sounding cliche to anyone.)
But now, though I can still jump about to their music, it's not the same. And no, its not because they are gaining popularity everyday - that kind of thing doesn't bother me. But it's left a bit of a void in my life.
So 2 things really -
...is it really necessary to fill this void with something bright and new? (or fresh and slightly depressing...)
...and if so, how do I go about finding something to fill it? (Ok, I know that's not really how music works, you can't just settle for some shabby stand-in, finding a new band to like is not the same as fitting a new bathroom...)
But, if anyone has a suggestions, examples of my music taste are Of Montreal and The Velvet Underground. Great bands...but I'm still looking.

Thanks :)
